Poem for Vasant J. Desai On completion of 75 years
Committed
to every human being
With their good always at heart
He moved from street to street
And from door to door
Like
a Voltaire with a lantern
He asked us to search our souls
To find out what we are contributing
To this land of poor
After
being a lawyer for 50 years
He discovered fault of nation
In our poor education system
He
went from school to school
And met each principal
To persuade him to teach
Proper verbs of English
To each of his students
He
spent sleepless nights
And worried about national debts
Created by our leaders
To pass on to next generation
He
cried Wolf! Wolf!
Again and again!
Who
will listen to him
In this land of silent lambs!
Whether
you believe in him or not
There goes a true citizen!

Shri Vasantbhai Desai,
The Programme arranged by you was a great success.
On the Occasion several persons gave their opinions
about you. I consider it's my duty to give my
opinion, Hence this letter.

While the educated section of our society
has become hypocratic, you are not a hypocrat.

While you are not conscious about your identity
the intellectuals to-day madly hanker for
attainment of identity and exaggerate their
success in many-many ways in the society.

While you keep self within yourself others
are afraid of the society and surrender to
it.
-
While all are afraid of God, you believe that
the God wants certain things done through
you, and therefore you are always invaded
with revolutionary ideas. Therefore your death
is the worry of God and not yours. You are
not afraid of death as others do.

While
you do not wholly subscribe to the theory
of Karma, you believe in the law of relationship
and the law of death. This is unique and the
common people find it difficult understand.
It is your invention.

When you get up every morning you wake up
with a fresh stock of courage and confidence.
This arrangement has been made by God for
getting some work done through you without
any selfish motive.

You are fully satisfied with what you have
and therefore you have no evil intention on
any one till today. To be self-satisfied and
have no evil intention which is not a common
feature also.
The
woman who cooks your food for years expressed
feelings towards you and gave presents to you,
it was a event in our society.
You
got the award of M A N A V - R A T N A in our
presence. You are the Gem of the Humanity.
